ESOL I: 01
Instructor: Barbour   
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is a class designed for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. The level 1 ESOL class is for non-English speakers.  The students receive current research-based instructions. The students learn to build social and academic language skills through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The class is aligned with Prince William County's Pacing Guide for Reading, but instruction is differentiated for students. Oral and written assessments are performed regularly in order to track students' progress.

Celebrating Food and Family Unit
Week 11/9-11/13 is the beginning our unit study on celebrating traditions around the world. Various traditions around the world will be introduced in the reading Celebrating Food and Family by Vera Ogden Bakker. Key vocabulary words  include: celebrate, traditions and ancestors
Reading/Vocabulary Words
The reading for week 11/2-11/6 is A Dogs Tale; We will focus on summarize skill. The vocabulary for the week, taken from the reading, is the following:managedmischievous, consequences, tension, vain. Vocabulary Quiz is Friday, 11/6.
Fiction Book Report
Choose a Fiction book to read and write a report on. Your summary should include title, author,  setting, characters, conflict (problem), solution and theme.  It will be graded with a rubric on a possible score of 100 pionts. The book report is due November 12th.
Fiction Unit
Review elements of fiction, example setting, character, conflict, plot and theme.
The week of 10/26 thru 10/30 we will focus on the plot (events of the story) of The Three Little Pigs.
